Mindfulness of Death

This is something I try to keep in mind. Not to depress me, but to energize me when I am feeling a lack of motivation to meditate. I reflect on all the possible ways I could die. There are so many. Death comes in many forms, from microscopic to gigantic. From viruses to asteroids. Indeed, I was nearly hit by a car the other day crossing the road—I just didn’t see it coming.

Beings die both young and old across all species of life. Unexpected deaths are common. When one contemplates the sheer number of beings that die here every day it’s like a gigantic slaughterhouse.
