What Influences Ridership on High-Speed Rail?

China is actually a good country of focus when studying how to develop a high-speed rail system because according to Zhen, Cao, and Tang (2018), over two-thirds of all HSR mileage was in that country. It is therefore our purpose today to understand what factors influence ridership on these systems, much like we did in previous issues of this blog for local public transit and regional public transit. We will focus primarily on the Zhen, Cao, and Tang (2018) paper for this post, which is titled “Exploring Correlates of Passenger Satisfaction and Service Improvement Priorities of the Shanghai-Nanjing High Speed Rail” and was published in The Journal of Transport and Land Use.
