The NSW rail system is struggling to serve both customers and workers — what’s going on?
<p>Across the Sydney Metropolitan area, and the wider Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong region, frequent train service has been replaced by frequent train cancellations in recent weeks, following months of intermittent industrial action of varying degrees by rail workers.</p>
<p><strong>How we got here</strong><br />
The current enterprise agreements for both Sydney Trains and NSW Trains (“the rail entities”) expired on 1 May, 2021, meaning that workers covered by these enterprise agreements have effectively had a wage freeze since 2020.</p>
