Mexico Olympics 1968

Mexico decided to hold an international competition to find a designer to do all of the branding for the Olympic Games. They wanted a contemporary, cosmopolitan design with Mexican influence. So Lance Wyman, 29, from New York and his partner Peter Murdoch flew to Mexico for a trial period in November 1966. Neither of them had visited Mexico before, so I can imagine this would’ve caused a lot of people concern as to what the designs would feature. This was a good thing though, as neither of them had visited before, they were seeing the wonders of Mexico with fresh eyes — like the millions of visitors would when they came for the Olympic Games — what the visitors find interesting about the city might have been completely different to how the people living there see their city, and what they want to show the world.
