Motorcycles in Mexico: A Methodological Reflection on Asking Good Research Questions
<p>What a proud moment — my child’s very first research question! Some parents grow frustrated with the constant “why”s of their school-age children. For me, it is one of my favorite things about this phase of parenting. This question revealed Gio’s curiosity about human behavior, and his desire to understand people’s motivations.</p>
<p>“Well,” I told him, “there are probably a lot of different reasons why that might be. What do you think some of them are?”</p>
<p>We proceeded to collaboratively list a number of potential rough hypotheses as to why it might be the case that Mexico (at least, the part of Mexico that we experienced together during our travels) is home to a greater population density of motorcyclists than our home in Austin.</p>
