In Malaysia, Mandarin to a level of advanced fluency is taught at national vernacular Chinese schools. There is approximately 1300 vernacular Chinese schools at present , out of around 10,000 schools (primary, secondary, boarding and vocational colleges) in Malaysia. Very rarely are these subjects taught at non-vernacular national schools even though it is a much sought after skill in the job market.
