I’ve spent decades immersed in the world of feminism. My journey has been colored by the experiences of a typical middle-class, white cis woman born in the USA in the 60s. My life has been shaped by the need for feminism, even though I may not always explicitly mention it. Today, I want to share with you the profound significance of intersectionality within the feminist movement, shedding light on why modern feminism needs to embrace it wholeheartedly.
In the early years of my life, I witnessed the emergence of feminism as a force to be reckoned with. The Women’s Liberation Movement of the 70s was a powerful beacon of hope, promising to challenge the norms and inequalities that had held women back for centuries. It was a time when I, like so many others, believed that gender equality would be achieved in one fell swoop without recognizing the intricate layers that needed to be unraveled.
