Why The War In Ukraine Is More Likely To Last For Years

There is a danger of the trajectory of wars in our modern age. Funding insurgencies, advanced weaponry, takes a lot of commitment. They require so much commitment on a social and economic level that combatants often have to look for outside support. War are often have immediate impact, tangible consequences and work on timescales. They also make headlines, so they gain interest by a lot of people.

What doesn’t work for people are prolonged wars. Those in theatre (the combat zone) begin to have combat fatigue and experience mission creep, while the rest of the world becomes disaffected.

With the War in Ukraine, the buildup of heavy and more advanced equipment is on the tip of everyone's’ tongue right now. Nuclear postures are constantly monitored by both sides. Every time Putin feels like he isn’t getting the right reaction from the West, he drops the word nuclear in a sentence (as long as cameras are present). Meanwhile the Western discourse is focused on providing equipment, yet the delivery of said equipment is very slow.

This is because the world is trying to avoid a wide scale war at all costs. States outside of Ukraine don’t want to be seen as provocateurs. It makes for some sticky politics.
