Becoming a U.S. citizen

<p>I first came to the United States from Romania in 1989. I was newly married to an American man of Romanian descent, and we planned to settle in Los Angeles, his home city. After four years of waiting for approval to leave Romania, I flew to the United States a month before the revolution and watched all of Europe erupt from across the Atlantic. By December, Romania was no longer communist and the Eastern Bloc was on its way to becoming a very different place.
