US Spanish: Social and Linguistic Profiles

The title that heads this work is used in reference to the definition of ‘profile’, and is intended to reflect the search for a group of traits that are specific to the Spanish, or that distinguish the Spanish of the United States. The issue that arises with the use of the plural ‘profiles’ is that it gives a glimpse into the complex reality of US Spanish, not only as a group of objectively diverse reality contours, but also that these contours are susceptible to differing interpretations by different individuals as well as by each observant. Generally, any analysis of the US Hispanic panorama tends to begin and result within the same domain- demographics.
