I Learned Something About Myself at Pride 2023 Yesterday

<p>Yesterday morning was the parade portion of Boise Pride 2023. Every year for the past five years, we&rsquo;ve attended our local Pride event. We attended our first one right after my daughter Avery came out as a lesbian, shortly before her 13th birthday.</p> <p>I&rsquo;ve supported the LGBTQ community for decades. However, I&rsquo;d never attended a Pride event prior to my daughter coming out. Though I had dozens of online LGBTQ friends and always voted in their best interests as a liberal Democrat, I&rsquo;d never checked out a Pride event in person, prior to 2018.</p> <p><em>I&rsquo;m not sure why I waited so long. These events are lit. And it&rsquo;s not like you need a written invitation.</em></p> <p>As we arrived yesterday and staked out a nice spot near the end of the route to watch the parade, I was thinking about how different this Sunday morning was from the first 21 years of my life. I&rsquo;d be in church already by this time, from the mid-70s to mid-90s.
