Does Climate Change Mean the End of the Fall Marathon?

The runners who woke up Sunday morning to this surprise notification were understandably upset. And a lot could be said about how the organizers handled the situation.

But in discussions around the situation, a certain idea kept bubbling up. With climate change, extreme weather is becoming more common. Are hot, humid, October days the new normal for the Midwest — and do they spell the end of the fall marathon as we know it?

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard people make this suggestion, either. It does seem like hot race days have become more common, and every time one rolls around people start to wonder aloud whether things will ever go back to the way they used to be.
