Why don’t we bury nuclear waste in space?

In today’s world, where a large percentage of electricity is generated by nuclear power plants and leading world powers possess huge nuclear arsenals, the problem of nuclear waste disposal is particularly acute. The main issue is that nuclear waste cannot be simply reprocessed, as it requires more energy than was released to form these wastes, making nuclear power pointless. Currently, there are technologies for re-enriching spent nuclear fuel, but sooner or later, we end up with waste that can no longer be used, amounting to several thousand tons per year. The radioactivity of most of it cannot be artificially eliminated, so we can only store it until its radiation levels naturally decay to safe levels.
