Alabama Politics Stops Rescue Efforts

Alabama Search and Rescue (ALSAR), a volunteer fire department, was dispatched by the Barbour County Sheriff's Office on January 12, 2024, at 9:07 PM for a critical search operation for missing child, Phenix Wilkerson. Demonstrating prompt and professional response, our team arrived on scene at 10:25 PM equipped with our incident command truck, and NASAR-certified tracking bloodhound teams.

Immediately upon arrival, ALSAR established an incident command center and checked in with the Sheriff's department. However, about 20 minutes into the search operation, Joe Drawdy AKA Robert Joel Drawdy of Barbour County Search and Rescue, also serving as the Fire Chief of Texasville Volunteer Fire Department, instructed our team to discontinue the search and leave the area, citing our non-affiliation with the Alabama Association of Rescue Squads (AARS) and per the request of the Childersburg Rescue Squad.
