Meanwhile, People Are Still Drowning in the Aegean Sea
<p>The situation with refugees and migrants on the Greek islands is serious and heart-wrenching. <a href="https://data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/mediterranean/location/5179" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Over 1,220,395 people</a> have arrived by sea from 2015 until today. Most of them come from countries experiencing severe conflicts, such as Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.</p>
<p>Living conditions in refugee camps are inhumane. The Moria camp, which burned down in September 2020, was one of the worst examples.</p>
<p>When the Moria camp burned down, another ‘temporary’ one was built to accommodate the thousands left homeless. This camp still operates today. I wonder if we can define the word ‘temporary.’ Alone, it doesn’t seem sufficient. Temporary in relation to what? Three years don’t seem temporary to me, anyway. What do you think?</p>
