Meanwhile, People Are Still Drowning in the Aegean Sea

<p>The situation with refugees and migrants on the Greek islands is serious and heart-wrenching.&nbsp;<a href="https://data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/mediterranean/location/5179" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Over 1,220,395 people</a>&nbsp;have arrived by sea from 2015 until today.&nbsp;Most of them come from countries experiencing severe conflicts, such as Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.</p> <p>Living conditions in refugee camps are inhumane. The Moria camp, which burned down in September 2020, was one of the worst examples.</p> <p>When the Moria camp burned down, another &lsquo;temporary&rsquo; one was built to accommodate the thousands left homeless. This camp still operates today. I wonder if we can define the word &lsquo;temporary.&rsquo; Alone, it doesn&rsquo;t seem sufficient. Temporary in relation to what? Three years don&rsquo;t seem temporary to me, anyway.
