Meanwhile, People Are Still Drowning in the Aegean Sea

The situation with refugees and migrants on the Greek islands is serious and heart-wrenching. Over 1,220,395 people have arrived by sea from 2015 until today. Most of them come from countries experiencing severe conflicts, such as Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.

Living conditions in refugee camps are inhumane. The Moria camp, which burned down in September 2020, was one of the worst examples.

When the Moria camp burned down, another ‘temporary’ one was built to accommodate the thousands left homeless. This camp still operates today. I wonder if we can define the word ‘temporary.’ Alone, it doesn’t seem sufficient. Temporary in relation to what? Three years don’t seem temporary to me, anyway. What do you think?
