Expats Leaving Hong Kong (By The Numbers)

Sure, a lot of things have changed in Hong Kong since I first arrived here in 2015.

I haven’t left (even during the dark times) and don’t intend on leaving Hong Kong, but sure, I have 100% noticed a decline in the “ex-pat” community.

I thought it would be helpful for those that are interested to see the data:

The Data

- In the past year (2022) over 113,000 residents left Hong Kong, marking a 1.6% population decline. This is the largest population drop in over 60 years[1].
- The city’s population has decreased from 7.41 million in mid-2021 to 7.29 million in mid-2022[1].
