4 lessons we learned from Y Combinator

GUEST ENTRY: Every January, Y Combinator is taking in a new batch of hopeful entrepreneurs. Danish startup Peergrade returned from the prestigious startup accelerator in 2017. Here’s what they learned.

My name is David and I am co-founder and CEO of Peergrade. We facilitate peer feedback sessions with students and recently completed our stay at Y Combinator (YC) in California. I want to share some of the things we were taught and tell you how we have succeeded and failed to follow their advice on our own journey so far.

The main component of being in YC is a lot of hard work. We brought the entire team (a total of 8 people) from Copenhagen to San Francisco for 3 full months. We lived and worked in an apartment together, with just three bedrooms (yes, we actually slept in bunk beds!) and a single bathroom. Our living room was also our office, the mattress closest to the router was the preferred Skype spot (putting the laptop on top of the fridge also worked well) and our kitchen played the supporting role of a gym.
