The Art of Illusion

As I watched the debt ceiling debacle unfold it struck home. The parties are complicit with each other, either for fundraising and/or to keep the status quo. We need more than two parties — and that means real parties, not ones that split the vote that everyone shy’s away from. Our democracy is no longer a democracy. It hasn’t been one for a very long time. You can’t have a democracy when women’s rights are shredded and one party is working to stop our voting rights. Gerrymandering is not part of a democracy. But is justice looking into this? I haven’t seen any evidence of it, especially since the Supreme Court gave it the green light. The decision of Citizen’s United opened the floodgates to dark money. What did we do? Nothing. Oh yes, we pretended to care, but who gets rich from this game? Politicians and the very wealthy. And many of them are profiting from insider trading as well. Against the law, folks. But who cares? (Insurrections are also against the law but look who is still in congress) And look at De Santis— what he’s doing to Florida is not democratic. Banning books, banning education that talks honestly about the past…the list goes on. Where is justice in this? And I’ve read that other states are planning to follow his blueprint.

Website
