Turn Back the Hands of Time 40 Years — The Young Me Should Have Said This

“Think of me every now and then, old friend.”

And for some reason, we put it off?

I have been guilty of this.

“The biggest mistake is you think you have time.” — Buddha

What if you miss that chance?

Regret is one of the most challenging and painful emotions to live with. We put ourselves in an emotional prison. We had the power, opportunity, and chance to tell that person what they meant to us, how they added to our life, and we threw it away.

And then, unexpectedly, they are gone.

I almost made this mistake in the summer of 2021

I wanted to thank my friend Chuck’s parents for being great role models for me during my high school years. His parents are now in their 80s and 90s. When we were teenagers, I always appreciated how they treated me and our group of friends, known collectively as “the Buddies.”

We were your typical teens back then. Young, we knew everything; indestructible, raised a little hell, ignored by women, listened to rock ’n’ roll music loud, and got home late. The house rule was to get home before the sanitation workers arrived.
