<p>Voters didn’t appreciate Stefanson vowing to <a href="https://pressprogress.ca/heather-stefanson-launches-ads-declaring-she-will-never-search-landfill-for-remains-of-murdered-women/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">never spend a penny</a> to search for two murdered Indigenous women whom police have said are <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/police-canada-say-remains-2-slain-indigenous-women-are-likely-landfill-rcna60485" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">buried in a city landfill</a>.</p>
<p>The day after the election, with a receptive partner in Premier-elect Wab Kinew, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government was ready with an <a href="https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/ottawa-puts-more-money-toward-studying-possible-winnipeg-landfill-search-1.6588565" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">initial contribution announcement</a> to help fund a feasibility study for the search.</p>
