Mannendri Olivares Student Spotlight
<p>Graduating at the top of his class from one of New York City’s most selective public high schools with a transcript that included 4 Columbia University classes and 5 AP classes is just one of many factors that certainly contributed to Mannendri’s success. But growing up and beginning his formal education at his neighborhood school in Washington Heights, where a little over 75% of the students scored below State standards of proficiency in both Math and English, makes Mannendri’s journey so remarkable. His path to MIT was far from certain given the many hurdles, especially poverty and school desertion, that students like Mannendri face in one of the lowest performing school districts in New York City.</p>
