I could watch it with my eyes closed and know where it was set.” A pick-up trundled by, broadcasting a familiar high-pitched recorded refrain. <em>Se compran … colchones … tambores … refrigeradores … estufas … lavadoras … microondas … o algo de fierro viejo que vendan! </em>I would learn later that this recording of a scrap collector’s 10-year old daughter had gone viral in the scrap business, spreading all over Mexico and even other countries in Latin America. “That’s the thing about this city” Alex continued “we’re defined by our sounds.”</p>
