Cohort Stories: Meet Waliyat

Coming to the United States as a young Nigerian teenager was eye-opening in the sense that we certainly do not live in a world of equal opportunity, and some people have it easier to achieve success, while others use their limited access to resources to try to achieve the same greatness. I am mostly proud of the fact that it gives me the opportunity to simultaneously see two separate worlds. You can decide which ideas and cultural practices to follow. I had the advantage of going over the cultures of two distinct countries and choosing specific elements that looked to be helpful overall. These diverse identity enables me to be more understanding and open-minded toward different ideas and that of those who are different from myself.
