Cohort Stories: Meet Aliya

<p>The most hardest decision in my life was moving to the United States to study, leaving my parents and my little brother behind. I&rsquo;m very proud to be a Cape Verdean and the first-generation college student in my family. I was born in Boston, but I am glad that I was raised in Cape Verde. I lived there for 17 years, where I grew up learning the quality of life and how you have to work hard to get where you want to be. My parents always told me that, education is the only inheritance that they could ever give me. Meaning, they weren&rsquo;t born with a silver spoon in their mouth, or had any wealth they could pass down to their children.
