Cohort Stories: Meet Alfonso

There have been trials and tribulations in transitioning from a business and finance background to a computer software engineer. After graduating with my bachelor’s in business, I chose to follow my childhood passion and pursue becoming an engineer. Thus, my new journey began by returning to community college, earning an associate in mathematics and computer science, hosting campus events, and participating in multiple hackathons. Afterward, I accepted an invitation to Boston University, where I am now studying for my master’s in electrical/computer engineering. Since then, I have joined an open-source software nonprofit for synthetic biology, mentoring high school students.

These milestones have not come without challenges, such as losing my father at 14, financial instability, and an unstable childhood home. Nonetheless, I am thankful because these experiences have shaped me into becoming the best version of myself.

Website
