The U.S. Immigration Crisis Makes Me Ashamed to Be American

<p>I walked up to the Catholic Charities/Red Cross building in the deep west side of midtown Manhattan unsure of what to expect. There were lines of recently arrived migrants, all appearing exhausted and scared, but determined. An employee brushed past me in the hallway on the phone, &ldquo;He needs to see a doctor and he needs a pair of pants. He only has one and he has been hand washing them in the bathroom and wearing them wet. It&rsquo;s given him some sort of skin infection.&rdquo; Just a glimpse into the abject destitution into which our country has forced desperate asylum seekers.
