The Opioid Crisis Started Because Big Pharma Wanted to Make a Profit

<p>The current opioid crisis that we are facing is another toxic symptom of capitalism gone badly wrong in America. A for-profit medical system puts profits ahead of patient needs, and led to a large number of people being over-prescribed opioid medications which are highly addictive.</p> <p>Pharmaceutical companies and doctors profited off of the opioid prescriptions that they were writing, without regard to patient safety. If they had put patients first, they would have thought of long-term consequences of using these drugs on a wide scale.
