How the ‘green economy’ exacerbates deforestation in Brazil by World Rainforest Movement — Local Futures

<p>In the &lsquo;green economy,&rsquo; the interests of corporations, governments and the conservation industry intersect. All of these entities, in one way or another, profit from the destruction of forests and the dispossession of communities.</p> <p>The REDD mechanism (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) is a key element of the Green Economy, despite the fact that it does not combat deforestation or growing climate chaos, as its name suggests. This is one of the lessons learned after more than 15 years of REDD.</p> <p>In the Brazilian state of Par&aacute;, there are not only increasing REDD projects, but the state governor is seeking to implement jurisdictional REDD throughout the territory.
