From Despair to Hope

One of the most heartbreaking days I’ve ever lived through was when I saw my grandfather cry. My grandfather, a tall man with tan skin, had always been a rock in my life. Admirable, kind, and loving, he used to call me “little grandson” in a tone that melted my heart.

That day, my grandmother sent me to the store to buy medicine for him. I’m unsure if she did it to shield me from seeing my grandfather break down or if we genuinely needed the medicine urgently. But I ran like never before, crossing the massive street near our home, and returned in the blink of an eye. Upon arriving, I found my grandfather in the same state: hunched over, frantic, and crying in a way that still resonates in my memory.

Lessons from a Generous Soul

My grandfather was a generous man. People with visual impairments, those with mobility challenges, and individuals facing financial hardship would visit his home, and he would always offer them some form of assistance, even if it were modest. He will always be a father figure to me and a role model. But why do I share this anecdote about my grandfather? We all have moments when we emotionally break, moments when we feel we’ve reached our limit and can’t go on.

The Pain of Rejection

About three years ago, I lived through one of those moments. I had applied for a job that excited me greatly. A “friend” who worked there even promised to help me get it. Day after day, I anxiously checked my email until the one I had been waiting for arrived. But upon opening it, the words “you have not been selected” hit me like a punch in the stomach. I collapsed on the bathroom floor of my home, crying silently so my wife and children wouldn’t hear me. I felt useless and finished.

Website
