From Despair to Hope: Uniting Generations to Save Our Planet

I am 70 years old, and I hate stereotypes. Are you with me here? Biases, prejudices, tropes — whatever you call them, they’re useless and hurtful.

Some folks complain about the labels attached to us as we age. Words like senior citizen, elderly, and old are far less hurtful than other terms of contempt; however, I’d rather be called an Elder.

But, I wonder if our generation is worthy of the title Elder, connoting wisdom and leadership.

Yes, many of us give back—spending time volunteering. In fact, those of us 65+ lead the nation in time spent volunteering. Of course, more of us are retired compared to younger folks, so we have time to share.
