Forgotten Technologies of Ancient Rome

<p>Having advanced the achievements of the Greeks and Near Eastern peoples, the Romans achieved significant technological progress, coming quite close to the creation of machines and the Industrial Revolution. During the Middle Ages, some of the Roman technologies declined or were completely lost over much of the territory of the Roman Empire.</p> <h1>Glass</h1> <p>Humanity learned to manufacture glass in the 3rd millennium BC. Still, the Romans elevated the production of glass items to an unprecedented level, mastering the technology of glassblowing to perfection. Introducing a unique metal tube for blowing, with an expansion at the end, allowed objects of any required shape to be formed. By the end of the Republican period, large glassworks appeared in Rome, and by the end of the 1st century AD, the limited production of window glass began.
