Communist Propaganda in Hanoi: a Fascinating Depiction of Street-Art

Many things come to mind when I think of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam and, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and unforgettable cities in the world. To me, it means too many things at once, so much so that it is difficult to pinpoint specific, separate reasons to justify its great appeal. My first ever article on Medium was about local street art, which while following some international trends, has even more specificities worth knowing about.

There is a specific type of street art, or so I would call it, that really stands out because it is not found elsewhere except in a few countries that share a similar type of government. I am referring to communist propaganda or its depiction on city walls.

When I first noticed it, I was very surprised at how evident it was throughout the country, until I got used to it and it became part of the background of my daily Vietnamese life.
