Guns are the leading cause of death for American children
<p>There was a small rise in gun deaths from 2013 to 2017 and then a big uptick in 2020.</p>
<p>Perhaps someone will talk about school shootings, then post the graph to suggest these are the leading cause of death. Most recently, I saw the graph posted on a Covid <a href="https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/yet-another-school-mass-shooting" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">epidemiologist’s substack</a>, discussing possible solutions to gun violence.</p>
<p>I think the graph is misleading. There are a few reasons we have to break this data down to understand the problems.</p>
<p>First off, it lumps together homicide and suicide. Which one got worse in 2020?</p>
