I think whoever has at least read one self-help book in their life knows the importance of long-term goals.
Here, I don’t want to reiterate what you probably find easily elsewhere about why long-term goals matter and the like.
My purpose for this blog is to discuss why those important goals are that hard to focus on.
So, without further ado, let’s jump in
1- Instant gratification bias:
In most decisions and activities we engage in, we are confronted with two options: the long-term benefits of it or the short-term pleasures.
Favoring either one usually ends up compromising the other.
However, We tend to choose short-term pleasure and sacrifice the long-term outcomes.
This tendency makes it hard for us to concentrate on our long-term goals.
2- Lack of tangibility
The immediate pleasure of an action is tangible and within our sight.
For example, eating unhealthy food might give you immediate joy, but in the long run, you may face its consequences for your health.
