You have probably noticed my almost obsession with city monikers if you read my other articles on U.S cities.
My almost obsession with places’ nicknames started when my kids were younger and we would compete to see who could read the state monikers on car plates during our road trips.
One of them would yell: “Michigan, the Great Lake State!” and I would follow suit and yell “Washington, the Evergreen State!” and another would go: “California, the Golden State!” and I would go, “New York, the Empire State!”
On and on, we would read the plates of cars that happened to be in front of us on the highways, wherever we happened to be. Good times.
