The Spit on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Sunday morning, again causing damage to the $9 million Littoral Rainforest project being undertaken in the area.
A local security guard discovered the illegal gathering of ‘a couple of hundred people’, at around 1:00am, complete with an elaborate lighting set up and sound system powered by generators, operating in protected bushland about 70 metres in from Seaworld Drive.
We are told the security guard immediately reported the event to the police and council officers, however, the police did not attend the scene until 2 am, when it is understood a patrol car simply drove up to the Seaworld roundabout, did a u-turn, and continued back in the direction of Surfers Paradise. The security guard again called the Police Link at 3:47 am, and again at 4:22 am but evidently received no assistance or response.
