<p>Machine learning is not new, but with growing databases and enhanced computational resources, it has been revolutionizing big data industries at a growing rate over the last decade. Social media, health care, insurance, and consumer goods are just a few of the sectors cashing in on the artificial intelligence boom.</p>
<p>The mining sector is yet another industry well suited to reap the benefits of this powerful toolset. In 2020, the Government of South Australia hosted a machine learning contest, “ExploreSA: The Gawler Challenge,” where contestants developed a number of models for mineral exploration.</p>
