I’m going to have a discussion nobody wants to have. I’m going to talk about the end result of autonomous trucking. I’m not going to talk about whether we can do it, I’m going to talk about whether we should do it, and probably not for the reasons you might think. Autonomous trucking will lead to dramatic consolidation of the trucking industry. We have already seen dramatic consolidation in rail, ocean shipping, and the airline industry. NONE of it has been good for shippers or consumers. The coming consolidation — should autonomous trucks become a reality — will be a national disaster.
