More often than not, we take it for granted that we live in a free world and that we are free people.
But is that true?
Can you really express your truest self on a daily basis?
The capacity to fully express yourself, to speak up fearlessly as a child does, and a sincere approach to all situations is the essence of what we call personal freedom.
Confidence in your right to oppose anyone’s opinion, confidence to confront the status quo without holding back, to firmly step aside from what does not naturally align with your heart – that’s what I call freedom.
But all the while we want to be free,
our first and foremost interest is to keep ourselves alive and safe.
And does this endeavour of staying alive in a harshly capitalist society, does it leave room for our natural need for freedom?
In what measure does survival in our era imply an inherent game of compromise?
Today everything is about the market. But how often do we sell ourselves on this market? We think we are free because we choose to enslave ourselves.
How often do we twist our natural expression to what the market demands? How on earth can we even remain in contact with ourselves in all this madness?
