I am not often in Copenhagen. It is a one-hour drive from where I live. And I can get my shopping and entertainment needs covered closer to home. But I do go there occasionally. And when I do, I see reminders of our racist past everywhere.
I will start with a disclaimer. I am a white dude, who is soon approaching 40. I am a history buff. And I have always tried to fight racism where I can. But I am aware I can not fully escape my racist history.
Many Europeans acknowledge the blatant racism in the U.S. But they falsely believe that it is a uniquely American problem. It is not. The slave ships that brought these slaves to the U.S. sailed from our harbors.
