Who were the Thracians, and where did they disappear?

Homer first mentions the Thracians in the “Iliad”. During the Trojan War, the Thracians fought on the side of the Trojans. The Macedonian tribes also originated from the Thracians, who were subsequently heavily influenced by Greek culture. The formation of the Thracian ethnicity occurred in the Late Bronze and Iron Ages, i.e., from the middle of the 2nd millennium to the end of the 1st millennium BC. The lands of the Thracians stretched from the Carpathians to the Aegean Sea and from the Black Sea to the Morava and Macedonia. There were known to be up to 90 Thracian tribes, with the largest among them being the Odrysians (in the southeast, in Thrace), and the Getae and Dacians on the left bank and partly on the right bank of the lower Danube.
