<p>We often think of Paris when it comes to the Eiffel Tower. It’s true! History has recorded that during its creation in the late 1880s, Barcelona held an open design competition for a 300-foot tower to be built for its 1889 Universal Exposition.</p>
<p>Among the designs was a blueprint from the engineer Gustave Eiffel. Although it received the highest honor, it was rejected in favor of another method due to its “gothic and eclectic style.”</p>
<p>To this day, the original Barcelona Eiffel Tower concept remains shrouded in mystery, while Paris can now boast one of the world’s most visited monuments.</p>
