You and Your Profile: On Hans-Georg Moeller and Paul J. D’Ambrosio’s Theory of Prolificity

<p><em>A</em>ccording to Hans-Georg Moeller and Paul J. D&rsquo;Ambrosio&rsquo;s book,&nbsp;<em>You and Your Profile</em>, how identity is constituted today has radically changed in comparison to the past. Retracing the historical identity technologies, social critic, Lionel Trilling, categorizes the identity formation process into two models, namely&nbsp;<em>sincerity</em>, i.e. people are born into a predefined role and&nbsp;<em>authenticity</em>, i.e. people must seek an authentic self. As the profile-based identity succeeds the past identity technologies, individuals now measure their identities in second-order observation, i.e. according to external perception.
