Bayonetta Origins is a strange game

One of the most puzzling games of the year probably flew right under your radar.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and The Lost Demon was first officially revealed at The Game Awards 2022 on December 8, 2022, but was hidden as a playable teaser in Bayonetta 3. It deviates quite heavily from its predecessors, as the game places a stronger emphasis on the story and puzzling aspects of the Bayonetta franchise than the combat.

You play as Cereza, a young Umbra Witch training under the guidance of another Umbra Witch and mentor, Morgana. Her first successful demon summoning leads to her stuffed toy Cheshire becoming her reluctant guardian as they venture into the mysterious and dangerous Avalon Forest to rescue a young boy and save Cereza’s mother.
