Scared of statistics? Here’s a quick example to get you comfortable with one statistical test!
<p>Statistics was my worst subject in college. I got a “C” in it, and I never wanted to look back. It was just too much “math with letters” for my taste. But little did I know that statistics would become part of my daily life as an epidemiologist. You see, in epidemiology, we use statistics to ensure that what we see in our studies is not just by chance. We call it “biostatistics” because we have to consider biological processes (like how a disease progresses), but the formulas are all the same.</p>
<p>So I’m going to guide you through a quick exercise in statistics with the following scenario. I’m also going to provide you with R and Python code at the end, so you can pull up your favorite IDE and play with the code. Or you can pull up paper and pencil and do these statistics by hand. (Seriously, this one you can do by hand because it’s simple.)</p>
