An Old Married Couple Goes on a Road Trip
<p>My wife and I spent New Year’s weekend of 2022 at the Oregon Coast. New Year’s coincided with king tides, those dangerous high tides that are dramatic and entertaining, assuming one is ensconced in a warm hotel room and never has to get anywhere near them. That is our kind of tourism.</p>
<p>We leave little to chance when we travel, so we made our reservation three months in advance, ensuring us a room that met our long list of requirements. Besides having a view of the tides, the room needed a bedroom separate from the living area and a kitchen. The separate bedroom is so that I can get up early, my wife can sleep late, and neither of us have to be inconvenienced by the other’s sleep patterns. We need the kitchen because although we enjoy eating in restaurants, we like our restaurant meals to be special, and special turns into tedious quickly if you have to do it for every meal.</p>
