A Brief History of the world’s Second-largest political party: The Chinese Communist Party
<p>The CCP was not only founded as a political party but also as a revolutionary movement in 1921, by revolutionaries Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu. These two individuals and a few others had come out of the famous May Fourth Movement of 1919 and had now switched to Marxism after witnessing the victory of Bolshevik in the 1917 Russian Revolution. China was in a turmoil during the 1920s and it was at this time that members of CCP such as Liu Shaoqi, Mao Zedong and Li Lisan started assembling a labour union in the towns.</p>
<p>In 1924, the party formed an alliance with the Nationalist party, and this alliance proved very successful at beginning however, around the year 1927 the Nationalists under the influence of Chiang Kai-shek turned brutally against the communists. The CCP party was driven underground as the communists were forced out of Shanghai.</p>
