Rethinking Ecocide and Environmental Protection: Beyond Human Rights to Ecocentric Justice

<p>We all rely on a healthy and thriving environment for our own health, wellbeing and prosperity. Our lives depend on a delicate balance within the world&rsquo;s natural ecosystems. But the biosphere is a global system. The effects of pollution, deforestation or other forms of ecocide in one country don&rsquo;t stop at that country&rsquo;s borders. One country&rsquo;s carbon emissions can contribute to rising sea levels and crop failures on the other side of the world. In this article I argue for a radical rethinking of environmental protection, which goes beyond human rights to a realisation of true ecocentric justice.</p> <p>Since the United Nations&rsquo; Universal Declaration of Human Rights, principles such as the right to life, health and wellbeing, food, clothing and shelter, justice, peace, security, home, family life and culture have come to underpin numerous international treaties.</p> <p><a href="https://pathlesspilgrim.medium.com/ecocide-and-human-rights-70100dea5f1e"><strong>Website</strong></a></p>
