The black community doesn’t always have to focus on pop culture

Whenever I hear about the supposed black community or black issues, I know that most of the time it’s going to be coming from or be talking about celebrities and pop culture. That’s basically what people are referring to most of the time when they’re talking about black culture, in the West anyway.

It seems that somewhere down the line black people have convinced themselves that the only black issues that matter are ones in pop culture and the only people who should speak about them are black celebrities.

I know celebrities have the biggest voices but they can’t relate to the things the average black person is going through, so it’s not helpful to anyone but them. Kanye West is a great example of this.

Website
